TRAVERTINE

Travertine is a form of limestone with unique porous veins that give the milled tile their beauty. The stone is found in a wide variety of natural colors, and four different finishes may be applied to individual tiles. Travertine has long been used in many of the most beautiful buildings in the world. Today, in addition to being an excellent flooring material, travertine tiles may also be used as pavers, countertops, stair treads, columns, sinks, and even bathtubs.

APPLICATIONS

Travertine has been used since prehistoric times to construct buildings ranging from homes to cathedrals. Its domestic and artistic uses include lamps, vessels, grindstones, statues and fountains. Different types vary in their hardness, but, in general, it is softer, and therefore much easier to quarry and shape, than many other stones.

Finishes

POLISHED
Stone with a polished finish features a reflective and glossy appearance with a smooth texture. This type of finish is most popular for kitchen and bathroom vanity countertops, with granite, marble, and quartzite being popular choices. With proper care and the correct cleaning products, polished stones are fairly easy to clean and maintain.
HONED
Honed stone finish is a softer and velvet-like version of the polished finish. In this finishing process, stone is buffed to a satin-like finish. Honed stone presents a matte finish compared to the shiny or glossy appearance of a polish finish. The surface is smooth to the touch, but has more of a dull texture.
